Sprinkler System Repairs & Upgrades

8-Ways to Upgrade an Existing Sprinkler System

  1. Upgrade your piece of mind-purchase an extended warranty:

After Green Grass has been to your house and improved or repairs your system to be in top shape. We can offer an extended warranty to cover any future system repair parts cost. *Labor is not included.

    • Sprinkler Heads: We will replace (spray heads or rotor heads), bad heads, broken or just gone bad. (Limited to 5-sprays and 5-rotors per season).
    • Controller: We will repair or replace the controller. If the controller can’t be repaired, we will replace it with the same type or a similar professional grade controller. (Limit 1-per season)
    • Valves: We will repair or replace bad zone or master valves. (Limit 3-per season)
    • Rain Sensor: We will repair or replace a bad rain sensor for ½ the price. (Limit 1-per season)
  2. Water your landscape plantings separate from the lawn:

If you already have a system old or new and it was not installed to water the landscape beds separate from the lawn. Or maybe the system was just installed to water the grass only. We suggest you water your landscape plantings differently than you water your grass. Your lawn’s watering requirements are not the same as the watering requirements for shrubs and perennial plants. You need to be able to program a different frequency of watering for your landscape plants as well as a different length of time they are watered each week. You cannot achieve this by watering your grass and landscape at the same time on the same zone. You will either under water or over water the grass or the landscape plants. Let us come in and reconfigure your system and add zones to accommodate the needs of your plantings.

  3. Upgrade all your heads to MP Rotators:

Let us come out for a consultation and see if you could benefit from upgrading all of your heads. The revolutionary MP Rotator features a unique, multi-trajectory rotating stream delivery system that achieves water-conserving results. Rather than simply “spray” water onto landscapes, MP Rotators deliver multiple streams of water at a steady rate. This increased efficiency results in 30% less water use when compared to traditional sprays and significantly reduces wasteful runoff. MPs are perfect for revitalizing older systems—a retrofit can solve both low pressure and poor coverage problems. The MP Rotator can be installed onto any conventional spray head body or rotor shrub adapter, transforming them into high uniformity, low precipitation rate sprinklers with matched precipitation at any arc and any radius.

  4. Install a master valve:

It is a must to have a master valve installed on your sprinkler system; existing or new system. Many companies do not install a master valve on the sprinkler system as part of their installation. When we install a sprinkler system, we install a master valve, no options. The purpose of a master valve is: When the system is not running, the master valve is the only valve in the yard that is constantly under pressure. All the other zone valves are not under pressure until the controller turns on the system to run a watering program. Without a master valve, if a utility company or your system develops a leak on the main line, there will be a water leak until the water is turned off at the tap, either inside the basement or in the yard. Installing a master valve will save wear and tear on all zone valves, which will save you money during the years on replacement parts. All controllers today are master valve capable; there should be no reason for a sprinkler system to be without a master valve. The master valve is one of the reasons why our systems that we install, last for years with little or no major repairs. We have systems over 30 years old still working well.

  5. Water your flower pots:

Tired of dead flowers from a missed watering? Or maybe you want the beauty of flower pot arrangement but just don’t have the time to keep them up? Let us upgrade your system to include another zone for flower pots we can add to any old or new system. We can install a drip zone with emitters run to each individual flower or plant. Read more about emitters. Read more about flower pot zones.

  6. Upgrade your current rain sensor to a Solar Sync weather sensor:

Whether or not you currently have a rain sensor, you might consider upgrading or installing a Hunter Solar Sync Weather Sensor. It is much more than just a rain sensor. The Solar Sync ET sensor is an advanced weather sensor that calculates evapotranspiration (ET) and adjusts Hunter controllers daily based on local weather conditions. Solar Sync measures sunlight and temperature, and uses ET to determine the correct seasonal adjustment percentage value to send to the controller. The controller then uses its programmed run time and adjusts to Solar Sync’s seasonal adjustment value to modify the actual irrigation run time for that day. In addition, the Solar Sync ET sensor integrates Hunter’s popular Rain-Clik™ and Freeze-Clik® sensors providing quick response in shutting down your irrigation system during rain and/or freezing conditions. The Solar Sync is compatible with most Hunter controllers and applicable to residences, businesses, and municipalities alike. 7. Upgrade your system controller:

How old is your controller and what are the features? Now may be time to upgrading your controller to a smart controller that is much more efficient and will interface with the Solar Sync and all other rain sensors. We like to use the Hunter Pro-C controller. See how easy the programming is:

  8. Install a rain sensor:

A wireless rain sensor can shut off your system right when it starts to rain. They can be mounted on an eave or any flat vertical surface like a wall or fence. A gutter mount is also available that allows for other mounting flexibility. If you are not going with the solar sync then we suggest using The Hunter Rain-Clik. Having a rain sensor will help you in conserving wasted water, prevent over watering lawn and landscape areas, and save you money.

6 Common Sprinkler System Problems

  1. No professional yearly maintenance:

Old system or new system you need yearly maintenance. Some people think of starting up the system and winterization as a do it yourself project, but in reality, effective system maintenance requires special commercial equipment that homeowners most likely do not have. It also takes extensive product knowledge. Maintenance is not something homeowners should try themselves. We have 4 different sprinkler maintenance packages and surely one that will work for you! Sign up and you will have a trained professional inspecting your system, making necessary repairs, and identifying potential improvements and system upgrades to help you water your property more efficiently. Check out our Platinum, Gold, Silver, & Basic packages!

  2. Leaks:

Leaks can develop at valves, heads, and any pipes on the system. We have the knowledge, experience, and tools to handle almost any leak in any system. Leaks can be costly on your water bill, let us ensure that your system is operating at its peak and that you are not throwing good money down the drain… literally…

  3. Broken or malfunctioning heads:

Most common repairs on any system are broken or malfunctioning heads. Many heads we can fix, adjust and give you proper spray coverage with your new or repaired head.

  4. Valve malfunction:

The valves are the key to directing the water to the right zones to provide the best coverage for your yard possible. When valves go bad it is possible to end up with leaks, low water pressure, and zones that come on when they are not supposed to.

  5. Controller/Clock:

This is the brain of any system. When your Controller/Clock is not working correctly your entire system cannot function up to capacity. Controllers can be repaired sometimes or replaced if necessary. We can also help you program your clock to ensure your system runs when and how you want it to run.

  6. Rain Sensor malfunction or upgrade:

Install a new Solar Sync or replace a broken rain sensor to ensure the most efficient use of your system by ensuring your system is not doing the work that rain has already done. If the Rain Sensor detects rain, it will prevent your system from watering or it will shut the system off if rain begins during a watering cycle, therefore saving time, money, and energy! Rain Sensors pay for themselves in a very short period of time.
